Australia is heading into a strong grain export season, creating positive opportunities for growers, traders and exporters.
According to ABARES’ September 2026 outlook, Australia’s winter crop is forecast at around 61 million tonnes, which would make it the fourth-largest on record. Victoria and South Australia are both expecting strong production, including significant volumes of wheat, barley, lentils and other crops.
For exporters, a strong harvest also means it is a good time to start planning logistics.
As export volumes increase, demand for 20GP containers, food-quality equipment, regional transport and vessel space can also increase. Confirming expected volumes and shipping weeks early can provide exporters with more options when arranging equipment and freight.
For grain and pulses such as lentils and chickpeas, container condition is particularly important. Clean, dry and suitable food-quality containers help protect the cargo throughout its international journey.
Regional transport and container free time should also be considered, especially when containers need to travel longer distances between depots, farms, packing facilities and ports.
